New
Zealand Choral Federation Inc
The
NZCF is a non-profit organisation whose central purpose is to promote
the performance, creation and enjoyment of choral music.
Formed in 1985, largely through the initiative of Emeritus Professor Peter
Godfrey CBE, the Federation has grown in strength over the years, and
now
represents the interests of 13,000 members from 168 choirs and 500
individual memberships. Among these are many top-level choral performers,
including some of New Zealand's most musically gifted individuals and
organisations. These include our leading our choirs, such as Voices
New Zealand,
the New Zealand Youth Choir,
and the New Zealand Secondary Students'
Choir, as well as other nationally known leading choirs such as Viva
Voce, The
Tudor Consort, Baroque
Voices, The
Graduate Choir and Musica
Sacra.
Members
of the NZCF are spread throughout New Zealand and are grouped into nine
regions:
Auckland; Bay of Plenty; East Coast; Manawatu/Wanganui; Taranaki; Wellington;
Canterbury/West Coast; Otago; Southland. The NZCF is a member of the International
Federation of Choral Music, based in Western Europe, which serves a global
community.
The
main aims of the NZCF are to further develop the quality of choral singing
in New Zealand by:
providing opportunities for regional choirs to have access to more
national and international events and personalities
encouraging the formation of new groups and new regions
working with elite national Kiwi choirs to stimulate excellence
and achievement
identifying conductors and developing opportunities for training
in choral conducting and attendance at valuable overseas choral conventions
providing efficient personnel for education in vocal and choral
techniques to build choir members' skills and understanding
