CHORAL CLINICS FOR CONDUCTORS AND SINGERS

The
NZCF Governance Board has organised a series of 12 conducting clinics
nationwide with internationally recognised tutors from abroad. These will
offer substantial coaching for conductors and singers from experienced,
highly-qualified, overseas practitioners. If you have a passion for choral
conducting or singing, these clinics are essential for you.

Hone your conducting skills under highly-skilled, professional
tuition
Learn how to rehearse your choir more effectively
Discover high-quality and attractive new choral music
Conductors at all levels are welcome (beginners to advanced)
all will have an opportunity to work with the Clinic Choir
Limit: 20 conductors per clinic
When not conducting, each of the 20 conductors involved will form
part of the Clinic Choir
Course fee: $110, which includes Saturdays lunch, morning/afternoon
teas, music and the Friday night reception with the Clinician and fellow
conductors

Improve your vocal expertise and choral techniques
Refine your understanding of choral music
Watch world-class conductors at work
Sing fascinating music with choral colleagues
You will work with the Clinician, and a wide variety of local conductors,
towards an informal Sunday afternoon concert
Limit: 50 singers per clinic (plus conductors)
Course fee: $40 (NZCF members), $50 (non-members), which includes
Saturdays lunch, morning/afternoon teas and music
PROGRAMME

Friday 7.30 pm 9.00 pm. Reception with the clinician, conductors
and guests
Saturday 8.30 am 5.15 pm Choral Clinic Part One
Sunday 1.00 pm 5.30 pm Choral Clinic Part Two including a short,
free concert at 5.10 pm
SPONSORSHIP
Conductors and singers are encouraged to seek financial assistance for
the Clinic fee (which is already subsidised by NZCF and Creative New Zealand)
from their choir committee, school or other institution. It is hoped that
a group from a conductors choir will apply as singers to support

The
Clinicians

Tone Bianca Dahl (Norway)
Christchurch 12 - 14 September, 19 - 21 September. Nelson 26 - 28 September.
Tone Bianca Dahl holds a Master of Arts degree in Choral Conducting.
She is currently Associate Professor in choral conducting and Stage
Performing at the Norwegian State Academy of Music, and the conductor
of Schola Cantorum and the female choir Vocalis. She is frequently used
as lecturer for choirs and choral conductors in the Nordic countries
and has recorded six CDs.

Debra Shearer-Dirié (Australia)
Dunedin 29 - 31 August. Invercargill 5 - 7 September.
Debra Shearer-Dirié holds a Master of Music Education degree
and Doctorate of Music from Indiana University in the United States.
She is Music Director of the Brisbane Concert Choir, and founded the
Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir. She teaches choral conducting at the University
of Queensland and supervises the Masters level conductors, as well as
travelling nationally, adjudicating and conducting.

Chris Kiver (USA)
Wellington 1 - 3 August. Hastings 8 - 10 August. Wanganui 15 - 17 August.
Chris Kiver is Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting at Penn State
University, where he directs the Penn State Mens Glee Club and
the University Chamber Singers. He also teaches classes in graduate
choral conducting and choral literature. Born and educated in England,
he was a double Grammy Award
winner in 2006 for the best choral performance and best classical album.
Dr Kiver has appeared as guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician
in the United States, Australia, where he was based for six years, and
New Zealand.

Rod Eichenberger (USA)
Auckland 22 - 24 August, 29 - 31 August. Whangarei 5 - 7 September.
Hamilton 12 - 14 September.
Rod Eichenberger is Professor Emeritus of Choral Music, Florida State
University, and guest-conducts and lectures extensively throughout the
world. For the past 30 years he has been an active participant in choral
music education in Australia and New Zealand, returning frequently to
conduct and lead workshops and summer schools. His instructional video
on Choral Conducting What They See Is What You Get is now
in its 13th printing. A second instructional video was released in 2001:
Enhancing Musicality Through Movement.
