News THE BIG SING Auckland
Region's "Big Sing" was held 9-11 June in the Town Hall and
again attracted more choirs than previously. Andrew Withington adjudicated
fifty nine choirs with over two thousand students performing on stage. The event was managed efficiently again by coordinator Fraser Faulknor and the Auckland committee, with some faithful volunteers, again worked quietly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of every facet. It was heartening to see visiting choirs who plan to compete next year. We would like to acknowledge the very generous support we receive from The Edge in allowing us to use the Town Hall free of charge and to Mark Leishman for performing the duties of MC so ably at the Gala Concert. The
new certificates were received very favourably and went to the following
choirs
Other awards included: Two conductor's awards were presented to Fiona Wilson and Jayne Tankersley in the form of free registration to the Choral Clinics. Three
awards were presented to choirs that had not participated in a National
Finale for the last two years: The best Junior Choir (Year &10): Bella Cantoris (Diocesan School for Girls). The 'performance prize' given to the choir at the Auckland Region Gala Concert who through their "performance and stage presence, delights, impresses and captivates the audience": King's College Chapel Choir. It was most gratifying to have seven Auckland Choirs invited to attend Finale. Congratulations to: The Fundamentals (Rangitoto College), Choralation (Westlake Boys' and Girls' High Schools), Euphony (Kristin), The Sweet Sixteen (Aorere College), King's College Chapel Choir (King's College), St. Cecilia Singers (Diocesan School for Girls), Saints Alive (St. Cuthbert's College). |
