Another Big Sing Finale is over, and 900-plus singers from 24 choirs, along
with their directors and supporters have returned to their home towns.
The three day event began on Thursday 30th August with a Mihi Whakatau from Kuia June Jackson and Peter Jackson of Te Atiawa, and finished with the traditional glittering Gala Concert on Saturday 1st September in Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre.
The recitals were presided over by adjudicators, David Childs, Karen Grylls and Peter Walls, with Matt Gifford as this year’s Auahi Kore adjudicator.
A highlight was the singing of Te Tarakihi (The Cicada) by a massed choir conducted by Andrew Withington, retiring NZSSC conductor.
This year’s Finale was livestreamed by JX Live and Radio NZ and as usual reached tens of thousands of viewers around the world, with compere Nick Tipping conveying messages from viewers throughout the night. A new broadcast opportunity this year was Face TV on Sky Channel 83. Face TV will rebroadcast the entire Gala Concert without gaps on Monday 10th at 6.30pm so tune in to watch your favourite performances again!
