On Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd August the Auckland Town Hall was stormed by crowds of very excited youngsters at The Auckland Kids Sing. Twenty six choirs from 23 schools, with pupils ranging from years 4 – 8 took part. Both days’ format was the same, with the primary school choirs singing on the first day, choosing either the competitive or non-competitive pathway, followed by an evening Gala concert where awards were presented. Tuesday saw the same process with the Intermediate choirs. Morag Atchison adjudicated this year’s performances.
Auckland Regional Co-ordinator Rhondda Garland is enthusiastic about the success of the event saying, “It is very encouraging seeing the work that is going into our choirs at this age and the standard achievable with these young voices. Also the enthusiasm and love for singing in both the conductors and the children. Choral singing is alive and well!”.
