The Nayland College ‘Naycol Chorale’ (SATB Choir) and ‘AngMENted’ (Male Voice Choir) have been on tour in Melbourne, performing at and with local schools and participating in the Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF) at the Deakin Edge Theatre. The choral programme has only been running three years at Nayland College and has already produced several highly commended awards at the Big Sing.
The judges at the VSMF were extremely impressed with the choirs, awarding both groups platinum awards, the highest honour possible at the festival. Chief adjudicator Paul Jarmen commented on the energy of the groups and the clear enjoyment the students were gaining from participating in the choirs. Musical Director Nigel Weeks was thrilled with the result. “The choirs have improved significantly over the past few weeks in preparation for the tour. To receive platinum awards was a credit to their commitment and determination to achieve”, said Weeks.
En-route to Melbourne the SATB Choir spontaneously performed for the Prime Minister and Baby Neve at Wellington Airport, making National news and commencing the tour in the best possible way.
