NZCF/SOUNZ choral composition awards 2016

General comments by the adjudicator, Leonie Holmes
I was hugely impressed with the quality of all the scores entered for this SOUNZ Choral Composition Award. The variety in musical style was great to see – ranging from Whitacre-like swells of sound to Pärt-like austerity; from folk tune influenced to barbershop.  Some were a cappella, others accompanied by a variety of instruments.  In all cases an understanding of what works for voices and the love of group singing was evident.

Congratulations to all the entrants! I hope you all keep composing and that the comments you receive on these pieces will help you along the way.
