Song Leaders Network Aotearoa (SLNA) is an organisation aiming to support leaders of singing groups that learn by ear, and that sing informally/recreationally or for health benefits. Their members comprise leaders of community choirs, church choirs, and social singing groups as well as music therapists and teachers of children’s music groups. They have web-based resources for members, and facilitate tours by international song leaders, as well as offering vocal leadership workshops and practice development clinics. Last year they produced their first publication of original songs written by members, Songs From The Land.
SLNA promotes networking between song leaders and choirs in the community music sector, and holds an annual professional development event over Queens Birthday. ‘Lead In’ 2019 is taking place in Waikanae, on the Kāpiti Coast, and SLNA is collaborating with NZCF to offer our members the chance to participate in this stimulating and informative event. Go to the SLNA website for more information about Lead In. NZCF members will be gifted a year’s free membership of SLNA if they are attending the weekend.
SLNA’s ‘Lead In’ 2019 will be held over Queen’s Birthday weekend
Friday 31 May – Monday 3 June 2019 – at El Rancho, Waikanae.

Previous Lead In events have proved to be highly successful, and song leaders have left feeling energised and refreshed, with new ideas and techniques to take back to their groups.
