Over 1800 young singers are excitedly preparing for The Big Sing Cadenza and Finale festivals coming up this month in Timaru, Whanganui, Rotorua and Dunedin. 36 secondary school choirs were selected for Cadenza and a further 24 for the National Finale. Check out the choirs attending Cadenza and Finale.
2019 is the first year of our newly-introduced Cadenza festivals, to be held in three areas: South Island (Timaru, 16-17 August), lower North Island (Whanganui, 19-20 August) and upper North Island (Rotorua, 25-26 August). The adjudicators for Cadenza will be Christie Anderson (Timaru and Whanganui), Artistic Director of Young Adelaide Voices and a core singer and Associate Conductor of the multi-award- winning Adelaide Chamber Singers, and Tim Sharp (Rotorua), Executive Director of the American Choral Directors Association and Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the International Federation for Choral Music.
Following the Rotorua Cadenza, Tim will stay on to adjudicate The Big Sing Finale alongside UK-based New Zealand opera singer Madeleine Pierard and James Tibbles, Associate Professor at the University of Auckland’s School of Music and Director of Music at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The Gala Concert at TBS Finale will be compèred by much-loved TV celebrity and former member of the New Zealand Youth Choir, Hilary Barry.
