There will be no change to Category One (New Zealand Composition/Arrangement) and Category Two (Choral Art Music (non-New Zealand)

The requirements for competing choirs at each level of the competition will be as follows:

Regionals (3 pieces in total)

  • 1 x Category One piece
  • 1 x Category Two piece
  • 1 x Director’s Choice piece (all genres of choral music, including but not limited to Categories One and Two)

Note: Arrangements of popular music do not belong in Category One but fall under Director’s Choice.

Cadenza (4 pieces in total)

  • At least 1 Category One piece (max 2*)
  • At least 1 Category Two piece (max 2*)
  • 2 x Director’s Choice pieces (all genres of choral music, including but not limited to Categories One and Two)

*A maximum of 2 pieces from Category One and a maximum of 2 pieces from Category Two.

Finale (5 pieces in total)

Note that the only repertoire restriction on Director’s Choice pieces is when the maxima for the other two categories have been reached.
