With the cancellation of many of NZCF’s major events this year, including the World Symposium of Choral Music and The Big Sing, we have been exploring other ways to engage with our choral communities whilst remaining in our bubbles. We recently assembled a working group of technically-savvy choral musicians to develop a series of virtual choir projects for our secondary school students and community choirs.
We’ll be rolling out the first virtual choir project for secondary school students very soon and are in the process of making rehearsal videos and backing tracks for Alfred Hill’s rousing A te tarakihi. Click on the title of the piece to watch a performance recorded at the 2018 Finale of The Big Sing. The choral arrangement by Brent Stewart was inspired by a Carl Doy version of the waiata recorded by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
