We’re pleased to have finally put Nelson/Marlborough on the NZCF map! There’s long been a Nelson/Marlborough region for The Big Sing, but until this year, our member choirs from the upper South Island have come under the auspices of NZCF Canterbury/West Coast.
We’re thrilled that local Nelson musician Lucy Rainey has come on board as the Chair of the region and is putting together a committee of choral aficionados.
Lucy sings soprano and assists with sectionals for the Nelson Civic Choir as well as playing first clarinet in the Nelson Symphony Orchestra. She teaches voice and clarinet at the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts and has a Master of Music from the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. She has previously worked as a classroom teacher of Music, French, English and ESOL and has several years’ experience on arts and education trust boards.
Lucy will be coordinating the first The Kids Sing in Nelson – a role she’s experienced in, having set up The Kids Sing in Wellington as well. Nelson’s The Kids Sing will take place at the Motueka Memorial Hall on Friday 22 November. If you’re interested in being involved, please get in touch with Lucy Rainey: firstname.lastname@example.org
Meanwhile, in other Nelson/Marlborough news, we were delighted to learn that the Nelson Coordinator for The Big Sing, Nigel Weeks, was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to music. You can read Nigel’s citation here.
