A memorial celebration of the life of Professor Peter Godfrey will be held at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul on Sunday 12 November at 5pm. This takes the place of regular Choral Evensong, and honours the work of New Zealand’s most influential choral musician over more than five decades. Peter died peacefully at the age of 95 on 28 September, and his funeral service was held for family and close friends a week later in St Michael’s Parish Church at Waikanae Beach.
The memorial will include choral tributes from choirs he conducted in this region, as well as the opportunity for the massed choirs to sing one of Peter’s favourite choruses and some hymns. All, including those who have attended annual May Workshops, are invited to take part in the massed choir.
The massed choir will sing Wood’s Oculi Omnium, and How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings from Brahms’ German Requiem. If you wish to sing either or both of these pieces, you are required to attend at 3.30pm for the rehearsal and sound check on the Sunday.
